Jelly and her only male cousin

Jelly's sole male cousin, Elan, stopped by one morning to hang out and offer treats for tricks.  Elan still refers to Jelly as "he" most frequently.  It's a funny developmental thing I guess though perhaps it's related to the fact that his own first pet, Tembo the cat was male.

Jelly is not bothered by the gender confusion as long as there are dog treats to be earned.

The Jelly-vator

Jelly is getting older (sob) and it's becoming more of a challenge for her to jump up on her dad's  higher than average bed where she sleeps (of course!)

As a first step, he just installed this phase I  "Jelly-vator" to ease her trek to the top of the bed.   A key to it actually being used by the cautious Ms. Jelly is that it be stable (it's attached with brackets to the bed) and that there be treats involved.

Jelly and the pillows

This is Jelly sitting in her dad's living room with the special "game" pillows.  She's looking oddly portly here but the colors are nice.

Jelly Guards Her Toy

Jelly loves to play the "guarding her toy game" as developed by her dad.  When she's at her dad's house they play long sessions of the game curled up on pillows on the living room floor.   She can appear to be quite ferocious but it's all in good, umm, fun. Really, as long as you know the rules. I'm not a fan of the game really but she's so eager to play I indulge her once in a while.

Sharpeis at the shelter

Every once in a while a Sharpei will show up at the shelter.  They always catch my eye for obvious Jelly reasons.  Last Sunday I spent some time with new arrival Heather.   She was a stray, appears to be around 11 years old and looks a lot like Jelly.

This was her first time out of her kennel since she was still on stray hold and she looks a bit apprehensive.  I brought out the scarf to add a little color against the cement since she wasn't yet allowed to venture into the park.  It was curious to look at her and see hints of my dear Jelly as she moved around.   When I got home I took a picture of Jelly in the same scarf right away and told her about Heather.    When I return from the shelter Jelly always sniffs me up and down to take in the smells and I recount to her all the dogs I visited with that day.

Happy Easter 2014

Jelly's Easter toys could use a bath but they're no doubt more desirable with years/layers of dirt on them.   Natalia asked to join the picture with her best cousin dog.

Jelly-tine

The best valentine I've ever had.  Ten years ago this month Jelly was rescued from the Martinez shelter by the Berkeley Humane Society.  I am forever grateful.

Trip to Point Isobel today

It was a busy scene at Pt. Isobel this morning.  Jelly is no longer interested in doing the long promenade.  Instead she heads over the rocks and water.  Today she only went in once and then was done.   I imagine the water was cold.

She does has her routine.  Right after the dip she heads over to the doggie cafe to get her "lamb choppers."   She beats me there and hangs out by herself until I show up with the cash.
